I took Jayson Wright’s class today and he said something I found interesting but also very true. Dance nowadays is going into this direction where everything is an attack. You lose the art and the subtleties in movement when everything is just HIT HIT HIT all the time.
Sometimes I feel like dance turned into a geometry problem. Just mad awkward shapes and poses to basses, snares and an occasional hi-hat.
Now to be fair, I think you need both to be a well rounded dancer. On one side its all feeling and on the other side its dancing like a robot. Don’t lose sight on either one.
